Bike Month 2024 Indego Recap

And that’s a wrap! Bike Month 2024 has come to a close, leaving us with unforgettable memories, exciting new routes, and a surge of new Passholders. Join us as we reflect on the highlights and standout moments from this year’s Bike Month!

National Bike Month is a whole month dedicated to celebrating bicyclists, the many benefits of bicycling, and encouraging everyone and anyone to ride! This celebratory month was established in 1956 and has been sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists to build a bicycle-friendly environment for everyone across the nation.

The week leading into Bike Month, we celebrated 9 amazing years of being Philadelphia’s favorite bike share system. In the spirit of this milestone, we kicked off Bike Month early by providing new riders and lapsed Passholders a chance to hop on with a discounted Indego30 pass for $5. We saw over 4,000 new riders redeem the Bike Month promo, and our system hit a new record for active Passholders!

On the first official day of Bike Month, we partnered with Wednesday Night Rides and the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia (BCGP) to kick off the month with a critical mass group ride. The ride included both Indego riders and cyclists with their personal bikes. For those who registered through our website, we provided complimentary Indego bikes and helmets. The turnout was fantastic—not only did all 36 registration spots fill up, but an additional 200+ riders joined the ride as well! The ride started at the Art Museum and ran through parts of West and East Fairmount Park.

Continuing with our group rides, we had one of our first Indego Ambassador group rides with the Ridge, Allegheny, and Hunting Park Civic Association (RAH Civic Association). This group ride went through parts of Ridge, Allegheny, East Falls, and Kelly Drive. Our ambassador group rides are led by our Indego Ambassadors who help spread awareness of the benefits of Indego and other available resources in their community.

Bike to Work or Wherever Day is an annual event that encourages everyone to try riding their bike to work! This year, the event was presented by our friends at Independence Blue Cross. With three starting points located near Indego stations, riders met with Council Members Jaime Gauthier and Mark Squilla, as well as State Representatives Donna Bullock and Ben Waxman. Together, they rode to City Hall, where BCGP held a press conference celebrating cycling as transportation and emphasizing the need for Vision Zero and creating safer streets for bicyclists and pedestrians.

For Be Well Philly Fest, we presented our first-ever Indego Smoothie Bike! This bike was in collaboration with our title sponsor and main sponsor of Be Well Philly Fest, Independence Blue Cross. Attendees were able to hop onto the Indego Smoothie Bike and mix their own smoothie!
