Indego Bike Share Turns 2 Years Old, Announces 2017 Expansion at Independence LIVE!
Coming in Year Three: expansion of system with 14 new stations
and enhancements to the passholder experience.
(Philadelphia) – City of Philadelphia Managing Director Mike DiBerardinis announced the second major expansion of the Indego bike share program, including 14 new stations as well as several major program upgrades set to launch this summer.
The announcement came at a birthday party hosted by Indego title sponsor Independence Blue Cross, at the firm’s Independence Live! venue at 1919 Market Street. “Indego bike share is a fantastic example of how the City of Philadelphia is moving forward,” said Managing Director DiBerardinis. “With Indego, we are making sure that Philadelphians from all walks of life have access to high quality, sustainable, and healthy options for getting around, getting to work, and getting some quality time with friends and family.”
DiBerardinis was joined at the event by Deputy Managing Director for Transportation & Infrastructure, Michael Carroll, who presented a look back at the past two years and a glimpse of where new stations will be located. “I’m extremely proud of how the Indego program has grown over the past year, and believe that this next round of stations will help us make bike share even better for even more Philadelphians,” said Carroll. The expansion is also funded by a $800,000 grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Commonwealth Financing Authority.
As presenting sponsor of Indego, Independence Blue Cross joined the celebration. Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Steve Fera noted: “At Independence, we are committed to supporting ‘Fearless Fit’ programs like Indego that inspire people throughout the region to get out and get active. We are proud of the many milestones that Indego has reached over the last two years, and are excited to be part of the continued expansion of the bike share throughout our great city.”
“While Indego is a City of Philadelphia program, we couldn’t have done it without the support of our partners and funders,” said DiBerardinis. “Independence Blue Cross has been a fantastic partner with Indego since our launch in 2015 and has truly set the bar for what it means to be a corporate citizen here in Philadelphia.”
Also announced was an additional grant from the William Penn Foundation. Indego Bike Share has been made possible in part by a $930,000 grant from the William Penn Foundation. The grant will support the programming, planning, and supportive infrastructure to create an engaged, equitable and sustainable bike share program.
Indego Milestones from 2016 include:
- Reached 1 million rides in November 2016, up to 1.2 million in as of April 2017.
- Added 30 new stations and 300 additional bikes thanks to the support of the William Penn Foundation

Please add a station on Tasker and 9th or 10th!!!
I second this request! pretty please
When will the 27th and Schuylkill Ave location open? It will cut my commute time 15 minutes! Very excited.
Awesome! By the end of this week! Stay tuned via @RideIndego on Twitter.
Wonderful news! Many really useful spots. Even though the new stations will be appearing on the app, it would be helpful to see a map of these 14 stations in order to learn how the network has grown.
Yep! We’re on it!
We need a station in East Falls
Yes, I’d love to see East Fall and Manayunk/Roxborough added!
So true! So many of us bike upto East Falls. Manyunk is right there and it would be great if we could get at least one station close to that part of town
Awesome about the new stations. Keep up the good work! It’d be great to have one at the fresh grocer on Grays Ferry Ave. It would serve both Grays Ferry residents and people in other parts of the city that like/need to bike to the grocery store.
I miss the Franklin Institute station 🙁
Add one at Race St and the running trail!?
I would love to see a station at the Wissahickon Transfer Center to connect Manayunk/Roxborough to the system!
Hi. It’s great to see Indego expanding but it seems that the emphasis is on expanding the existing areas where Indego already serves. When will we see a wider network throughout the entire city?
How about a station near the Philadelphia Brewing Company???? There’s no station near this booming part of Kensington. 🙂
Thanks for adding new stations, love to see that Indego is expanding. Any plans for stations around Kensington/ Port Richmond? Maybe Huntingdon and Aramingo?
I would like to see a Indego station some where along 52nd & Market, 52nd & Chestnut by the YMCA or by Malcolm X Park.
Yay, great work, Indego! Please add a bike station at Kingsessing Park, pool, and rec center (49th & Chester)! The SEPTA 49th St regional rail is at that intersection, and so is a very active rec center, pool, and park. Would be so helpful!
Hi, what about the Overbrook section of the city. There are no Indego stations in this area. How about 63rd Street and Malvern Ave near the trolley stop. There are a few Septa routes that stop there…10, 46, 65, & 105.
Does the new stations mean new bikes also?
It does! 200+ new bikes are rolling out!
New station at SEPTA bus depot at 26th and Allegheny Avenue, please. Please. 🙂
Not enough in South Philly. Why don’t you expand further South? There are no stations in the far South while there are tons in North…
Somewhere in the shopping center on 23rd / Oregon – by the Planet Fitness would be great!
I second that. A station anywhere in East Falls will save us alot of trouble
Any chance of continuing South along Broad closer to FDR Park and the Stadiums?
Yay, great work, Indego! Please add a bike station at Kingsessing Park, pool, and rec center (49th & Chester)! The SEPTA 49th St regional rail is at that intersection, and so is a very active rec center, pool, and park. Would be so helpful!
