The Better Bike Share Partnership (BBSP) is an effort led by the City of Philadelphia that works to ensure that Indego bike share is accessible to all Philadelphians. The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia is a non-profit advocacy and education organization working as part of the Better Bike Share Partnership to support bike share and biking education. The Better Bike Share Partnership is funded by the JPB Foundation.
With the arrival of summer, it’s the perfect time for people to familiarize themselves with the Better Bike Share Partnership’s programming and upcoming events. There are activities for everybody: from newcomers learning how to ride to savvy cyclists looking for a new experience. Here is a breakdown of upcoming classes and rides so that you can find the one that is perfect for you!
Adult Learn to Ride Class
Date: July 15th
Time: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Location: Martin Luther King Recreation Center located at 2101 Cecil B Moore Ave
Description: Don’t know how to ride or haven’t ridden a bike in a while? Don’t worry, the BSSP team has you covered with Adult Learn to Ride (LTR) classes. These two-hour classes teach participants the basics of riding a bike and offer refreshers for anyone who simply hasn’t biked in a while. It’s a great way to gain confidence in the basics of biking!
Urban Riding Basics
Date: Last Thursday of every month
Next Class: Thursday, July 26th
Time: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Location: 1901 Vine Street, the Freedom Library of Philadelphia’s Central Parkway location
Description: Biking in an urban environment can be intimidating, even for people with plenty of biking experience under their belt. To help people learn everything they need to know to bike safely in Philadelphia, the BBSP team offers monthly Urban Riding Basics (URB) classes. These one- hour classes are discussion-based about bike safety specifically in Philadelphia. Topics covered include rules of the road, bike laws, proper equipment, biking infrastructure, and safe riding tips.
For anyone interested, URB classes can be followed up with tests rides, so participants can get familiar with how the Indego bike share program works. Want to check it out? Head over to the Classes and Rides page on Indego’s website and follow the link to sign up!
Monthly Rides
These 40-60 minute community rides are a great way to get familiar with green spaces, or simply get out and have fun!

Exploring the Grays Ferry Crescent:
Date: July 28th
Start Time: 11:00 AM
Starting Point: The Aquinas Center, 1700 Fernon St, Philadelphia, PA 19145
Description: This ride will start in South Philadelphia and go to Grays Ferry Crescent, a trail segment that wraps around the Schuylkill River’s east side.
Urban Garden Tour:
Date: August 25th
Start Time: 11:00 AM
Starting Point: Meet at the Indego station at 22nd and Cecil B Moore
Description: This ride will be a great way for people to familiarize themselves with the fantastic work being done throughout some of North Philadelphia’s urban gardens.
If you are interested in any of the monthly rides, please follow the links provided to register! Indego bikes and helmets will be available for people who register online through our Classes and Ride link. For all other riders, we recommend that they bring their own helmets.
