The Indego team is beginning to plan for system expansion in 2021, with plans to more than double in size by 2025. To help in this effort Indego is seeking support from key community members to serve as Indego Expansion Liaisons for the upcoming expansion of the program.
Indego Expansion Liaisons will serve as advisers to help engage West Philadelphia (ex. Walnut Hill, Garden Court, Cedar Park, Mill Creek) and parts of South Philadelphia (ex. Point Breeze, Gray’s Ferry, Mifflin Square). Liaisons will help create a space for community voices to be heard and introduce bike share as an equitable, high quality, reliable, affordable, and healthy transportation option.
About the Role:
Indego Expansion Liaisons should expect to spend approximately 10-15 hours per month on this work in a combination of training, calls, meetings, and related activities. Work will be concentrated in the months of January-April 2021.
Expansion Liaisons will receive a $1,500 stipend in recognition of their time and effort paid in three installments.
Indego Expansion Liaisons will be expected to:
Participate in:
- Virtual Expansion Liaison orientation and training. Liaisons will be provided with a complimentary Zoom Pro account to facilitate their work. Topics will include:
- An overview of the Indego system and program goals
- Gaining insight into the Indego expansion plan
- Biking in Philadelphia, bike safety, and outreach strategies
- Monthly meetings with all Expansion Liaisons, weekly check-in calls with the Project manager, and other miscellaneous calls and coordination as necessary.
Organize:
- At least three opportunities for your community to lend their voice and provide input on where Indego should place a new station. This may be through virtual meetings, conference calls, limited in-person meetings (if appropriate & safe), and surveys.
- Incorporate Indego into at least one pre-existing event or meeting as part of this requirement (virtual or in-person).
Commit to helping:
- Provide advice and information to members of the Indego planning team and other partners about the needs and opportunities within your community for Indego bike share stations.
- Communicate with your neighbors and peer organizations to assure that their voices are included in the conversation.
- Review plans for the Indego program and other materials.
- Connect residents in your community with Indego resources that maintain the City’s guidelines for social distancing.
- Connect the Indego planning team with other key stakeholders in your area and advising them on effective communication strategies.
Applicants Should Have:
- Strong ties to areas for the 2021 Indego Program expansion. Those areas include:
- West Philadelphia including Walnut Hill, Garden Court, Cedar Park, and Mill Creek
- South Philadelphia including Gray’s Ferry, Point Breeze, and Mifflin Square
- Enthusiasm about bike share in Philadelphia.
- Experience working in a leadership role in your community.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages, abilities, cultural groups, economic status, or sexual orientation using virtual platforms.

About Us
Philadelphia’s bike share program, Indego, launched in 2015 and has grown to 145 stations and 1500 bikes (electric and classic) and currently extends from Diamond to Ritner streets and from the Delaware River to 48th street in the west. Indego is an initiative of the City of Philadelphia, and is operated by Bicycle Transit Systems, a Philadelphia based company, and is overseen by the City’s Office of Transportation, Infrastructure, and Sustainability (OTIS).
The City of Philadelphia is one of the founding partners of the Better Bike Share Partnership, a national initiative aimed at improving equitable access to bike share and other forms of shared micro-mobility. The Better Bike Share Partnership is an initiative funded by the JPB Foundation.
Can someone from North Philadelphia be an ambassador?
Hi there! If you are interested but do not live in one of the expansion areas, we still suggest that you join the information session on the 17th to see how and if we could work together! You can also email Stephanie.Ridgeway@phila.gov to go over your questions.
It would be nice if the Roxborough, Manayunk, Andorra area of the city were included in your expansion efforts.
I will be the Liaison for this newly-minted area.
