2025 Expansion Update

2025 is shaping up to be a transformative year for Indego as we continue to expand and improve our system, making bike share more accessible than ever. Let’s take a moment to celebrate our 2024 achievements and preview the exciting plans ahead.

In 2024, Indego added 16 new stations, 274 docking points, and 400 bikes—300 Indego electric bikes and 100 refurbished classic bikes—to the system. These additions helped strengthen service in Northern Liberties, kicked off an expansion along City Avenue, increased capacity in Center City, and filled in gaps in Grays Ferry.

Our 2025 expansion plan builds on last year’s progress, introducing service to three new areas while continuing efforts in key zones from 2024. This year’s focus includes:

  • Cobbs Creek
  • Tioga/Rising Sun
  • Manayunk/Roxborough
  • City Avenue
  • Kensington/Richmond
  • Mill Creek/Parkside
  • Kingsessing

These neighborhoods were selected based on a variety of factors, including our commitment to equity, increasing access to low-income communities and communities of color, proximity to green spaces and educational institutions, and connections to transit hubs. Input from our Suggest a Station tool also played a key role in shaping this year’s expansion.

By the end of 2025, we aim to add approximately 40 new stations and 400 Indego electric bikes to our system. Alongside this expansion, we’ll also focus on densifying existing neighborhoods and ensuring that every dock is fully operational.

Please note, that the blue 2025 expansion areas in the map above represent geographic growth planned for 2025. Specific station planning is an ongoing process with our partners and community stakeholders.

We’re thrilled to bring these exciting improvements to life and look forward to riding into 2025 with you! Here’s how you can join the journey:

What is indego doing to help make roads safer? Given the many recent cycling deaths in Philadelphia, and with the potholes and lack of bike lanes, I often feel uncomfortable and unsafe riding in the city. How is indego lobbying the mayor’s office to improve this transportation for its riders?

I want to add that not even the bike lanes keep us safe. The number of cars, delivery vehicles, contractor trucks, USPS and UPS vans, even big semi trucks, that park in bike lanes in Center city, south Philly and everywhere, every day, all hours of day and night (especially dangerous at night) is unbelievable. Drivers seem to think bike lanes have big Free Parking signs on them. It’s SO dangerous for bike riders to have to dart in and out of traffic around vehicles parked in bike lanes! Please do something.
I also second the plea from David (below). More classic bikes, please. We despise the electric bikes. Do not add more, please!

I hope the ratio of classic bikes to electric bikes added to the system (1 to 3) will not get worse. I’m a confirmed classic bike rider; my trips don’t take me into hilly parts of the city. I am disappointed that the availability of classic bikes is frequently a problem.

I get so frustrated by the lack of availability of regular bikes. I’m in Brewerytown and have two stations close to me and 3-4 more somewhat close. I regularly experience having no regular bikes available for consecutive days at a time. I bought the membership for exercise and to commute. Defeats the purpose of the exercise if the bike is doing the work.

I will be waiting to hear where the new Indego bike stations will be located in Roxborough. Streets did install “No Parking ” signs at the top of the bike lane that has been so dangerous on the Ridge Ave hill…….in front of a business that persisted in parking in the bike lane & on the sidewalk. This is the Gateway to our NW Neighborhood…….So far the signs have been effective.

FYI— if a vehicle parked in a bike lane, it is the PPA that responds quickly…..text the PPA as soon as you see the violation.

Hi! Without any announcement or warning, you removed the station at 16th and Jackson last year. Then, when I reached out you, you said would be replacing it with a new station “soon.” When is soon? When exactly will we be getting that promised station at 16th and Jackson? Me and my neighbors relied on that station. I have screenshots of our conversation if you’d like to be reminded of what you said.
