Happy Women’s History Month! For our featured group ride this month, the Better Bike Share Partnership team has designed a ride meant to empower women and gender non-conforming cyclists. Keep reading to learn more about the Femmes + Friends: Women’s Empowerment Ride including how to reserve your spot!
The Femmes + Friends: Women’s Empowerment Ride will take place on March 21st from 11 AM – 1 PM in North Philadelphia. Participants will meet at the Indego station at 20th and Master and ride through Fairmount to your new favorite, woman-owned coffee shop, Coffee Cream & Dreams. Cycling advocate and founder of the Women’s cycling group, Pedal Posse Divas, Stephanie Ford, opened this shop in October 2019.
Once we arrive at Coffee Cream and Dreams, WOAR (Women Organized Against Rape) will facilitate a discussion on the street harassment that women and gender non-conforming folks can often experience while cycling. This includes gender-based harassment, how to best protect yourself, what to do when being harassed, and more. This conversation is meant to spark dialogue about our experiences riding around Philadelphia and will be a safe space where all are welcome to speak their mind. After enjoying coffee and conversation, we will then ride back to 20th and Master to dock our bikes.
We hope to see you and celebrate Women’s History Month with a bang at the Femme + Friends: Women’s Empowerment Ride!
