This season the Better Bike Share Partnership created the Indego Champions Program. The program is a result of the high demand for beginner programs and is implemented by the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. Learn more about this new program, meet the very first graduate, and find out how you can sign up today!
The Indego Champions Program was designed to empower people who can’t or don’t ride into becoming regular cyclists through a series of three to four classes. While the following is the suggested class order, participants can mix up the order in which they take these classes and are able to opt-out of taking the Learn to Ride class if they already know how to ride.
First, participants learn to ride a bicycle at the Adult Learn to Ride course. Then, they practice slightly more advanced riding techniques at the Skill Building Course. Next, the participants learn their rights as a cyclist and the rules of the road at the Urban Riding Basics class. The program is then concluded with a group ride.
Successful completion of the 4 courses not only earns the participant a prize package (1 free month of Indego30, complimentary year-long membership to the Bicycle Coalition, and some swag), but it enables participants to be confident while riding and encourages them to use Indego on a regular basis.
The Bicycle Coalition started the program this April and in just a few weeks, there were more than 30 participants registered! This program, like all Indego events, is free and open to the public.
It only took one month for Nile to complete all the steps required for graduation and today he is the proud first graduate of The Champions Program. He let us know that he first joined “to become more confident biking in Philadelphia.” Now he will be able to stay engaged as part of Philadelphia’s biking community thanks to the Bike Coalition and Indego memberships he received upon graduating. Today, Nile can be found riding Indego bikes all around West Philly.
We are proud to congratulate Nile on his graduation! The BBSP team looks forward to having all 40+ members of the Champions program graduate and take on the streets using their Indego bike perks all over Philadelphia.
