Innovative Black Poetry

February 15 @ 3:00 am - 5:00 pm

From their event page:

Since the beginning of time, black writers have contributed to the creation of poetic forms that are still a part of the literary tradition today. In the 20th and 21st centuries, black poets continued to invent new ways of writing when the old forms did not suffice. Often, invention was necessary to give voice both to day-to-day black life and black resistance to racist oppression. In this workshop, we’ll learn about some of these invented forms, explore what they mean to us today, and write our own poetry in response.

This workshop will be presented by Teaching Artists from Drexel University’s Writers’ Room. The workshop is intended for adults and seniors.
